It’s that time of year again! Time to step back from our lives and businesses to assess what’s working and what’s not so you can set some intentions for the year ahead. If you’re like most people, you’re probably feeling a mix of emotions. Maybe you’re feeling proud of how far you’ve come and excited about all the possibilities. Or maybe you’re feeling frustrated that you didn’t accomplish everything you set out to do and worried that you’ll never reach your goals.
While taking a break when you’re already feeling stressed or overwhelmed may seem counterintuitive, a reset can help you move forward with greater clarity. Regardless of your feelings, it’s important to remember that every day is a new opportunity to start fresh.
If you’re unhappy with where you are right now, it’s time for a reset. In this video, I’m going to share five simple steps to help you reset your mindset so you can make this the best year yet!

Define Your Intentions For The Year Ahead
The first step in a mindset reset is defining your intentions for the year ahead. Intentions are powerful because they provide a roadmap for how you want to show up in your life and goals.
- Take some time for yourself to get clear on the goals you want to accomplish.
- Think about the type of relationships you want
- How you want to live your values.
- What kind of person do you want to be?
- How do you want to feel?
Answering these questions will help you get clear on what’s most important to you and what kind of life you want to create.
Quit the Negative Self Talk
Our minds have a natural tendency to focus on the negative aspects of our lives. In fact, research shows over 65% of our thoughts are negative. Yikes! Why does it matter? Your mind doesn’t know the difference between positive and negative thoughts. If you tell yourself you’re not good enough, guess what? Your mind will believe you. That one thought will seep into your subconscious, and every time something doesn’t go to plan, you will say: “See? I knew I couldn’t do this.” You reaffirm what you believe is true, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
It’s time to quit negative self-talk (or limit it significantly). The easiest way to do this is by becoming aware of your thoughts and intentionally replacing negative ones with more positive ones. In turn, this will then completely alter your perception of the world.
When I finally understood the impact my self-talk had on my results, I decided to pay attention to my thoughts and words. It wasn’t an overnight process, but my decision paid off in dividends.
Let Sh!t Go
If you want to move forward, it’s essential to let go of the past. That means forgiving yourself for your mistakes and forgiving others who have hurt you. It also means letting go of negative emotions like anger, resentment, and bitterness. This can be a complex process, but it’s essential if you want to create a better future for yourself.
Start by recognizing what you need to let go of. These could be memories of something that happened in the past, current habits or even actions of others that literally suck the life out of you.
- Write down what you need to let go of and then start the process.
- Practice self-compassion by reminding yourself that you can only do your best.
- Forgive yourself by recognizing that you can’t change the past, but you can create a different future.
- Finally, forgive others who have hurt you and let go of any resentment or anger.
- Finally, look forward with optimism knowing that it’s possible to create the life you truly want.
When one door closes, it opens space for possibility.
Be Kind To Yourself
The last few years have been filled with some unexpected (and sometimes crazy) stuff. One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to be kinder to yourself. When you are kind to yourself, you are able to tap into the resilience, creativity, and resourcefulness that we all possess.
That means speaking kindly to yourself, respecting yourself, and taking care of your physical and emotional needs. But that’s not always easy when you’re caught up in juggling all the things. A simple way to help you get in the practice to do this is to take a few moments each day to practice gratitude.
Take time to appreciate all the wonderful things you have going on in your life and recognize how far you have come. This doesn’t need to be complicated – it can be as simple as writing down three things you’re grateful for every single day. Focusing on what is positive helps us be more present and better positioned to move forward with greater clarity and purpose.
When you’re kinder to yourself, it’s easier to be more considerate to others and make positive changes in your life.
Take Action Toward Your Goals
The reset means nothing if you don’t put it into action. Once you’ve worked through the steps above, it’s time to reflect on the intentions you have for the year and then break them down into goals and take action. It may sound intimidating, but setting goals will help provide a roadmap of intentional action steps that will help you achieve your goals.
Set yourself up for success by setting achievable and measurable goals- both big and small goals. Also, don’t forget to schedule in fun activities to keep your motivation high! Achieving goals doesn’t have to be all work and no play.
- Setting up systems, processes and habits will provide support for your goals.
- Create accountability partners who can help you stay on track.
- Make use of available resources like workshops, courses, or coaches to get the guidance you need to succeed.
- An added tip on taking action is to visualize your goals. Visualization is simply the act of using your imagination to create an internal picture in your mind of the goals you want to see. You’re already doing this daily without realizing it, so why not use it to your advantage?
Remember that the reset is intended to provide space, clarity, and focus so you can move forward with intention and purpose. The time you took now will help you gain insight into what’s working and shed light on projects or areas of life that may need re-alignment so you can continue moving forward with greater clarity than ever before.
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help if it’s needed; no one should go through this alone!
These five steps can help you reset your mindset so that you’re ready to take on 2023 with intention and purpose! So go ahead — start setting goals for next year, quit negative self-talk, let sh!t go, be kind to yourself, and most of all, take action!
And if you’d like to put your plan in place sooner than later so you can reach your goals at a faster pace, you’re in luck!
