If you’ve been on social media at all this week, then you’ve probably seen posts about what some are calling the greatest playoff game in NFL history between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. The first 58 minutes few will remember. But then…25 points were scored in the LAST TWO MINUTES.
The last two years have been a bit nuts for us. 2022 will be a year that determines who is in to win and who is still deciding whether or not they want to play. More than strategies and tactics, if you are going all-in with your business, you’ve got to make a shift.
Even if you aren’t a football fan, the advice coach Andy Reid gave to Patrick Mahomes with 13 seconds to go can be applied to anyone in business!
How things went down…
Just after the two-minute warning, quarterback Josh Allen, threw the ball to Gabriel Davis on fourth down to give the Bills the lead.
Next…
Instead of kicking a field goal, the Bills went for the two-point conversion and made it, making this a three-point game for the Chiefs with only 1:54 to play.
52 seconds later the Chiefs had taken the lead back.
CRAZY!
This left one minute and 13 seconds for the Bills to score a touchdown and they did!
The score was now Bills 36, Chiefs 33.

This left 13 seconds in the game and the Chiefs needed three points to tie and four points to win.
Certainly not enough time for Mahomes, right?
It was then that coach Reid told him, “When it’s grim, be the grim reaper…..and go get it”
Talent played a big role, but his mindset was just as important to keeping Mahome’s head (and his teammates) in the game instead of giving up.
It was GO time…
With just 13 seconds left, Mahomes connected with Tyreek Hill for a 19-yard play and then Travis Kelce for a 25-yard play. Harrison Butker kicked a 49-yard field goal and sent the game into overtime. The Chiefs won and are headed to the AFC Championship game.
It was a truly unbelievable final two minutes.
Now think about your mindset when have you been faced with ‘13 seconds’ and…
🔘The amount of work to be done seemed overwhelming with the time you had to complete it.
🔘Your competitors seemed to be successfully executing all the things in their business.
🔘You had the choice to lead by example or let others steer you off course.
🔘And…insert your greatest challenges.
Did you see impossibilities (obstacles) or opportunities?
If you perceive obstacles as a sign you can’t succeed, try shifting your perspective to see them as temporary setbacks providing valuable lessons. Remember it’s not what happens but HOW you respond to what happens that makes the difference.
You’ve got to DECIDE NOW that you’ll be playing to win. Whatever winning means to you.
Remember….when you’re faced with 13 seconds, BE THE GRIM REAPER AND GO GET IT.
